The apartment is roughly 750 square feet and includes a bedroom/office (the main bedroom where guests sleep), a converted bedroom, living room, eat-in kitchen and bathroom. Note: This is a shared apartment listing. This is a converted two-bedroom apartment, which means there are two, separate, private sleeping areas. The main bedroom is the one that is available for guests. The second one is used by me. The apartment is a 5th-floor walk-up and the following is included with the fee: - High-speed Wifi throughout apartment - Shared bathroom (includes bathtub and shower) - Fully equipped, clean kitchen (microwave, toaster, oven, coffee machine) -Gas, electric, heat and hot water The large, fully-furnished main bedroom includes: -A full-sized loft bed -Large windows and a lot of sunlight (the room is 10 feet by 12 feet) -Desk/Chair -Comfy chair -Pub table and stools -Lamps -Dresser and closet -High-speed Wifi and HDTV -All bed sheets, pillows, blankets, towels included About the Neighborhood - East Village -There are many restaurants, shops, a playhouse, live music, and laundromats in the nearby vicinity. Historical: My apartment is in the famed East Village, just about three blocks from Union Square. This area has a rich history. Across the street (now housing) was an old Vaudeville theatre where it is said George Burns had performed. The East Village was the site of "Old World Charm" for many years before becoming home to hosts of artists and creative types in the 1970s. The neighborhood has been highlighted in movies and plays, perhaps most notable the hit Broadway musical, "Rent." Union Square has been the site of demonstrations for decades, with perhaps the largest and most recent being for a period of weeks following 9/11. Culture: Going back to the 1900s, the East Village was heavily populated by Jewish and Polish immigrants. In the early 2000s, many French called it their home and today there is a Japanese community. Area restaurants and businesses reflect those communities. Today, there is an area known as "Little Tokyo," which features a number of Japanese restaurants where sushi and ramen are prevalent. There are off-Broadway theaters as well as many places to see films in the area. Live music is available and can be heard at various bars and clubs including Webster Hall. While many artists have since moved out of the East Village, art is still a big part of the community. There are a host of galleries. Food culture is huge here. The restaurants are incredible, including Momofuku and Danny Meyer's famed Union Square Cafe. His original Shake Shack is about a 15-minute walk away. Not only restaurants, but grocery stores galore. Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, West Side Market on the East Side and the Union Square Farmers' Market are all within a few blocks of one another. This is why I call it "The Food Mecca of the Universe!" Picturesque: Aside from the many brownstones and prewar architecture that is the East Village, it is about a 15-minute walk to the East River where beautiful views of Brooklyn and Queens can be observed. Union Square Park is also a few blocks away, which is both historic and relaxing. The Hudson River is about a 25-minute walk and that's where New Jersey and the Statue of Liberty can be seen across the Hudson River. The Empire State Building and its assorted lights can be seen from various spots around the neighborhood. When I first moved into my apartment, I could actually see the top of the building from my bedroom window. That is no longer possible since an apartment building was erected on the corner blocking my view. Movies & TV Locations: There have been many movies filmed in this neighborhood. One of the most known is "Taxi Driver" starring Robert De Niro. That movie was filmed right outside my apartment in the mid-1970s. The apartment next door is referenced by number in the film. This is where Jodi Foster's pimp was located. Another film, "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith was filmed all around the area. During the filming, many blocks were closed off in the neighborhood at night for weeks to ensure New York City appeared almost void of human life. Sports: It's about a 35-minute subway ride to the famed Yankee Stadium. The new stadium was constructed several years ago within a very short distance of the original site. MetLife Stadium and CitiField are about an hour's train ride away. There are many parks in the area, including East River Park where hosts of people gather to play tennis, basketball, baseball, soccer, running and a host of other sports. Transportation: -The apartment is easily accessible to the bus and subway. Just over a block from the "L" train (located on 14th Street and 3rd Avenue) and a short walk to Union Square Park / Station where stops can be found for the 4, 5, 6, "L", "N", "R", "Q" and "W" trains. About Me: I am an active, clean and considerate guy who worked for a non-profit in the sustainable agriculture / environmental field for many years. Today, my chosen career is life and business coaching. I am easy-going, drink socially and do not smoke or use drugs. I love to go for walks around all areas of the city. It's amazing how diverse it is. Sometimes I don't even feel like I'm still in the city if I hop on a subway and just go to a new location. I do have many interests, including assorted sports, films and traveling. Miscellaneous Please send along a little information about your background, profession and interests during your stay. Additional Info: ***COVID-19 INFORMATION*** Prior to Arrival: I would ask that guests traveling from outside the New York area (and especially outside the US) be familiar with any restrictions that they may be subject to upon arrival. I'm unable to track this information at this time. So, guests should know in advance if staying in a shared space when they arrive will not be against current travel restrictions or put me into a position where I would be required to quarantine once the arrive. In addition, guests who get vaccinated for Covid-19 should have done so at least 10 days prior to their stay as they may otherwise be contagious around other people. Guests also should clearly understand that they are booking a shared space. I live here and will be home during their stay. They should be comfortable with such an arrangement. Also, guests should realize that while the building and apartment are clean that the facilities are not modern and have been subjected to wear over the years. There is a difference between being clean and looking new. If that makes guests uncomfortable, then this may not be the right place for them to visit at this time. Guests may be concerned about the novel coronavirus and would like to know some details about the cleanliness of this space. Hopefully, the below details will make you feel more at ease and comfortable with keeping your booking. EVHS not a vacation rental or a hotel room that has seen transient guests go through it on virtually a daily basis during the pandemic. This is my home. I live here year-round. So, it is in my best interest to keep it clean and clear of bacteria, viruses etc. that may cause harm to me and my guests. Guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19 and Cleaning Strategy: At least one full day is blocked off on my calendar between guest check-ins to allow the apartment to be ventilated, cleaned and disinfected. For cleaning, I use products and procedures as well as cleaning tips and hygiene recommendations outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Upon arrival, each guest is provided with a clean bath towel and bed linens. All laundry is professionally cleaned. During the cleaning process, all high-touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected between guests. This includes table tops, hard-backed chairs, desk, hairdryers, doorknobs, light switches, remote controls, handles, toilet, sinks and tub. The guest bedroom is ventilated for at least one hour. Floors and rugs in the common areas are cleaned/disinfected and vacuumed. While guests are present, high-touch areas in the kitchen and bathroom are cleaned daily including the kitchen tabletop, doorknobs, light switches, sink tops and toilet seat. All household members should follow normal preventive actions including recommended hand hygiene and avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. Guests who wish to contribute to a safe, healthy environment during their stay, can do so by taking steps such as the following during their stay: -Close toilet lid before flushing to prevent bacteria from aerosolizing -If feeling mildly ill, consider confining yourself to the guest bedroom as much as possible -Clean and discard any of your hair that may have settled near the drain after shower -Clean the bathroom sink top when/if appropriate after use -Don't share bath towels ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 1. Make sure to bring a copy of a valid US driver’s license or your local passport when you check in so that you are able to confirm your identity. 2. You will be asked to complete a short form when you arrive that includes: your home address, ID and emergency contact information. 3. You understand that by booking through this service you will only stay for the duration for which you requested/paid.
