Welcome to Our San Diego Homestay! We’re glad you found us! Our family loves to travel, meet people from around the world, and welcome international guests into our home. We have two adult children who live in San Diego with their spouses, and we are also very happy grandparents. Wes is a pastor at a local church and also serves as a police chaplain. We both work at Chick-fil-A in Chula Vista, and Aimee is a volunteer birth and postpartum doula with UC San Diego Health. We truly enjoy interacting with our homestay guests. If you are here to learn or improve your English, great! We watch TV with subtitles, and you are always welcome to join us. Don’t worry about making mistakes — that’s how you learn! Come Make Yourself at Home Our spacious 5-bedroom, 3-bath home has been remodeled and updated with a large family room, upgraded kitchen, and renovated backyard patio. Our dining room table seats 14, because we love having friends and family over for dinners, holidays, and special events. Our family also loves games, and we’ll happily teach you a few of our favorites. Perhaps you can teach us some of yours! Aimee makes crunchy homemade sourdough bread and tasty banana bread almost every week — and she loves to share. You will have space in an extra refrigerator in the garage that is shared with our other homestay guests, and our kitchen is always available if you’d like to cook for yourself. Our Backyard Is One of Our Favorite Places Our backyard garden and patio are where we love to eat, relax, visit, and enjoy San Diego’s beautiful weather. Our son and his husband created a beautiful succulent and cactus garden, and our yard is filled with lots of special touches — including Aimee’s colorful hand-painted mural. And then there is the She Shed! Aimee’s whimsical She Shed was built from old doors and overlooks the garden. It’s colorful, cozy, and really quite "adoorable!" It’s a lovely spot to sit with a cup of coffee, read, or simply enjoy the garden. Depending on the season, you may also be able to pick something fresh from our yard. We grow oranges and lemons, along with boysenberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. We also have avocados, pomegranates, plums, and nectarines when they’re in season. Our home is quiet and peaceful, yet often full of life with friends and family stopping by to visit. Come Explore San Diego With Us There is a reason San Diego is called America’s Finest City, and we love showing it off to our homestay guests. We have kayaks and love spending time on the ocean and San Diego Bay. Hiking is another favorite, and you’re welcome to join us whenever we head out for a hike or kayaking adventure. There is also a popular walking and running path near our home that goes around a golf course in Bonita. Public transportation is within walking distance of our home. The bus connects to the San Diego Trolley system, making it possible to travel to Downtown San Diego, Old Town, Mission Valley, and many other areas around the city. A Few Things to Know We do not have pets and are unable to accept homestay guests traveling with pets, although we certainly understand that pets are part of the family. Both of our adult children have dogs, so their dogs do occasionally visit our home. For your peace of mind, we have completed a background check and have a clear status from the Government Watch List search, DOJ search, and San Diego County criminal search. We receive many requests for our homestay rooms. If you reserve several months in advance, we may request a $300 non-refundable deposit to hold your room. When you arrive for your scheduled homestay, the full $300 will be credited toward your first month’s rent. Please reach out with any questions you may have about our home, our family, or San Diego. Large closet, dresser, and desk. Capacity: 2 Rates: 500.00 Weekly / 1300.00 Monthly 2. Double Room (Downstairs Bedroom 2) with Shared bathroom Ground floor room facing the quiet backyard and garden patio. Queen-size bed. Just steps from the bathroom, which is shared with other guests. Large closet, dresser, and desk. Capacity: 2 Rates: 500.00 Weekly / 1300.00 Monthly 3. Double Room (Upstairs Bedroom 3) with Shared bathroom This room is upstairs with one closet for hanging clothes plus another one with shelves. It has a large dresser, desk, and two bedside tables. The bathroom is shared with other homestay guests. Capacity: 2 Rates: 500.00 Weekly / 1300.00 Monthly 4. Triple Room (Room 4 Upstairs ) with Shared bathroom This upstairs room is larger than the others. It has a queen-size bed plus a twin roll-away bed, if needed--perfect for a child. A walk-in closet is off the bathroom. This was our primary bedroom until our addition. Capacity: 3 Rates: 600.00 Weekly / 1600.00 Monthly House Rules: The rules are simple. Since your bathroom is a shared bathroom plus the guest bathroom for our friends to use when they visit, we require you to keep that clean and picked up daily. You have access to the kitchen and please clean up immediately. You are responsible for your own food. We all share one washer and dryer, so be courteous. Your friends are allowed to visit but not spend the night. No drugs are allowed, including marijuana. The most important “rule” is that you immediately let us know if something is bothering you.
