Welcome to Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs..the best side of the city! ** Please read the rules before booking. Our home is a character-filled older house tucked into a peaceful cul-de-sac in a quiet estate near Monash University. We offer a relaxed, friendly homestay that’s ideal for travellers and backpackers seeking a calm base, as well as university or language school students needing accommodation. The guest room is simple & comfortable. On guest arrival : - Freshly laundered linen & towels - Basic toiletries - Small treat pack of snacks and drinks * Complimentary Light Breakfast is included in your Homestay (toast/cereal/noodles, tea/coffee, fruit). A weekend dinner can be arranged for an extra fee of $20 per person if you would like a home-cooked meal. My son and I share the home. He works days, I work evenings, so the house has a nice, easy rhythm. We respect your privacy, but are happy to have a chat, share a meal, or a relaxed drink if you feel social. The real bosses of the house: 3 cats. They’re gentle, mostly keep to themselves, and may stop by to say hello. Guests need to be comfortable around cats and not allergic. They’re not allowed in the guest room, but as any cat owner knows, a completely fur-free life is… aspirational. Outside, you’ll find a large backyard with a covered verandah overlooking the garden, a great spot for a quiet morning coffee, a relaxing read or some bird watching. Our area and surrounding suburbs have a large population of people from East/Southeast Asia and Europe, and many restaurants serve authentic cuisines. Or if you like to cook yourself, many Asian/European grocers/delis/markets stock everything you need. We’re about 20 km from the city centre, but getting around is simple. A bus stop just 10 minutes' walk away connects you directly to the university, train lines, and major routes. Monash Uni is an easy 15-minute walk or a quick bus ride. Two shopping centres are within walking distance (or a short bus trip) with cafés, cinemas, supermarkets, and plenty of places to browse. A larger shopping hub and aquatic centre are also nearby for swimming or gym sessions. We’re close to the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, home to superb walking and hiking trails, including the famous 1000 Steps. You can visit Puffing Billy Scenic Railway and the Botanical Gardens, a treasure trove for nature lovers. Our location is also a great gateway to Phillip Island and the Mornington Peninsula, perfect for day trips. We are happy to suggest places for you to visit or help with directions. Winter: electric blanket/flannel sheets & heated throw blanket Summer: fan, external sun shade Capacity: 2 Rates: 315.00 Weekly / 1200.00 Monthly House Rules: Photo ID needs to be provided to confirm your identity -Payments- All Payments are in CASH, ON arrival. ** 1-30 Nights: Full payment of the Homestay is required ** 30+ Nights: The first 30 days are to be paid on arrival. Payment will then be for each week, 7 days in advance. Other payment options can be discussed (bank transfer or PayPal is possible) - payment must clear into the Host's account before the due date. * A $100 security deposit is required for all stays. It will be refunded at the end of your stay, provided the room is left as it was found and the key is returned. * A $20 Cleaning fee is required for all stays longer than 5 nights. Check-in - 3:00 pm, Check-out - 10:00 am (if you need earlier or later, we can discuss). -General Rules- House Quiet Time - 10.00 pm-7.00 am; please keep noise to a minimum between these hours. English is to be spoken in all common areas of the house. Phone calls are to be made in your bedroom or outside. No speakerphone inside the house; it is considered bad manners. No shoes inside the house. No Pets. No visitors without prior approval (we do not mind you having friends over if you discuss it with us first). No food in the bedroom. Bedroom is to be kept clean and tidy at all times. For the quiet enjoyment of all residents, Bathroom & Kitchen activities are to be completed between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm. Guest dishes are provided for your use. Wash, dry and put dishes away after use. Leave kitchen & bathroom clean and tidy after use, with all surfaces wiped down and rubbish put away. Washing machine use is restricted to full loads only, once a week, due to water restrictions and costs. Dryer is not available for guest use; there is a local laundromat if required.
